Message From Our Executive Director

How amazing is helping families call a place home, enriching lives, helping others to reach their potential, offering quality housing to all and working with fantastic community partners!!  That is what the year has held for Memphis Housing Authority.  We have accepted the challenge and risen to the occasion.  Several priorities were important for me as the Director of this Agency and some of those were housing more families; improving customer service; increasing employee morale; and making visible progress with our Choice Neighborhood Implementation (CNI) grant for Foote Homes/South City.  I hope that if you grade us, our scores will have gone up on each point.  We still have quite a way to go but we are not slowing down. However, I do believe that our progress is visible.  As we work to continue providing the best housing service for all and to increase the provision of the same, we want to continue to hear from you.

Some of our progress this year has been in our work to be more efficient.  Things like our work to implement direct fax communication for our employees so that hundreds of people don’t have to depend upon a limited number of fax lines.  We also recently implemented electronic payments for vendors and are looking at the implementation of automated rental payment for our public housing residents.  We will continue to expand use of and improve our HCV landlord portal, and we are also working to increase safety measures for the developments and buildings we manage and to assist have applied for both police and fire safety grants. Because we take great pride in our communities, we are focusing more on their curb appeal and upkeep.  We are also about to begin major elevator projects in some of our high-rise buildings.  Finally, as evidenced by the work in progress at Foote Homes, we have also moved the needle quite a bit on our major CNI project.

As you can tell, I am very proud of MHA’s work but I would be remiss if I didn’t thank each and every member of the MHA Team, our great Board of Commission, and all of you.  Let me emphasize that we live by our motto, “Striving for Excellence and Nothing Less” and will continue that as we move into this new fiscal year.  Thank you again for allowing us to serve you.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and if you have comments or suggestions about how we can better serve you, please reach out to us.

Sincerely,

Marcia E. Lewis
